Seven unselfish reasons to look and feel great

Do you realize that you’re actually serving your country by eating organic broccoli, as well as doing leg presses? Seriously. I mean it!

In other words, you’re not just bolstering your health by consuming antioxidant-rich foods, as well as strengthening your body. You’re also making a powerful social statement that’s ultimately in the best interests of your loved ones, your community, and your countrymen. To understand the full implications of how your health affects everyone else, consider the following wake-up calls:

  • By not maintaining good health, you’re more likely to have to take time off from work. This can lead to setbacks at your job, such as missing out on a promotion, adding to the workload of co-workers, or even being “let go.” And if you’re self-employed, then down-time typically translates into lost income. Either way, if you have health-related setbacks at work, this can also put a financial strain on your family and anyone else who relies on you.
  • If you live in the U.S. and have limited medical health insurance coverage, then you need to take particularly good care of yourself. Otherwise, if you get sick, out-of-pocket medical expenses can drain your family’s finances.
  • All across North America, government-subsidized health care costs are spiraling out of control. So be considerate to your fellow taxpayers: try not to needlessly fall victim to some lifestyle-related disease. After all, if you become chronically sick, your treatment could cost taxpayers hundreds of thousands, or even millions of dollars over the long-term.
  • The heavier you get, the more likely you’ll end up with cancer, heart disease and/or type 2 diabetes. So be your body’s best friend.
  • Be a leader. It’s easier to do than you think. If you get into shape, that’ll inspire others to do the same. You can also become a role model for younger people, particularly family and friends. By setting an example, you’ll show them how not to fall prey to weight-related medical conditions.
  • Share the benefits of accentuated vitality/energy, a greater zest for life, and a more positive outlook by becoming more active in your community.
  • Opt for a more alkaline diet. Also choose wild-caught fish and organic meat (if you’re a carnivore), and increase your intake of non-animal forms of protein. These are all ecologically-sound choices for a green planet.
