With the upcoming legalization of adult use cannabis in Canada, the conversation surrounding our new legal framework has never been more exciting. October 17th will represent a monumental shift in policy, one in which every Canadian has the opportunity to become involved. If you’re looking to learn more about this burgeoning industry then read on as we highlight a few events this month that’ll keep you up-to-date on all things cannabis.
What: Grow Up Expo
When: September 7-8, 2018
Where: Niagara Falls (Scotiabank Convention Centre)
This 2-day conference will feature 100 speakers and over 200 exhibitors in an 80,000 square foot convention centre, and is aimed at professionals looking to expand their knowledge and network in Canada’s fastest growing industry. There will be speakers’ panels, an exhibit networking cafe, and a “Grow at Home” workshop created for the recreational user to learn how to cultivate cannabis in a legal, safe, and responsible manner.

This is a free event brought to you by Direct-MS, an organization formed in 1998 by families affected by Multiple Sclerosis to provide information and strategies to help reduce symptoms of the disease. Aurora’s Director of Advocacy and Corporate Social Responsibility Jonathan Zaid will be speaking on the topic of accessing medical cannabis in Alberta. Free and ample parking will be available, along with complementary literature. Doors open at 6 pm!

The Grassroots Expo is hosted by the Georgia Straight and co-presented by Aurora. Our very own Bella Sie will be speaking on how legalization will affect minority communities, alongside Aurora’s Manager of Regulatory Affairs Annaliese Kibler and Director of Provincial Distribution Partnerships Audrey Wong. The Expo will also feature various hands-on workshops including “Ask a Cannabis Lawyer: An interactive legal panel” and “Grow like a Pro: Home Cultivation for Beginners.”
Outside of the cannabis realm, Aurora will be participating in the Calgary Pride Festival as a Platinum sponsor; check us out at the Pride Parade and Pride in the Park events which are both being held this Sunday, September 2. Aurora is also this year’s corporate partner at the Toronto International Film Festival and will be hosting the B.L.A.C.K. Ball (along with many more events). Plus, we will be involved in various AIDS Walks across Canada – stay tuned for additional info on how to support these incredible initiatives and more in the coming weeks.
We would also like to take a moment to highlight “Elevate Tech Week”, a Toronto-wide tech and innovation festival that will be co-presented by Aurora.
What: Elevate Tech Week

A number of members of the Aurora team will be speaking, so be sure to come out and meet us in person! Topics in the discussion include “The Opioid Crisis & the Opportunity for Cannabis”, “Medical Testing & Genetic Solutions”, and others (including a town hall meeting about the consumer and the workplace, innovation in the industry, and more).
