Employee Profile: Jess Latimer

In recognition of the two year anniversary of Aurora’s industry-leading mobile app, we sat down with one member of our team who was crucial in its creation. This month’s employee profile features Aurora’s Director of Software Engineering, Jess Latimer, who brings her enthusiasm for this growing industry into work every day. Here’s what she has to say about her time at Aurora and the app she helped build.

Joined Aurora: Almost two and a half years ago

Role in one sentence: I’m in charge of all the coding at Aurora.

Favourite part about working at Aurora: The people and the culture – we work hard but we have fun too!

Q: Why did you decide to work in cannabis?

JL: As a cannabis user myself, I jumped at the opportunity to work in a field surrounding a product that I was familiar with and believed in. A brand new industry was in the midst of being built, and I wanted a part in it. It really was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Q: How far has the app come since it was first launched in 2016?

JL: We’ve created a few versions of the app since its inception. In the latest version, my team and I really wanted to build a mobile app that would make it easier to stay up to date on all Aurora products and to place medical cannabis orders. That’s why we added a bunch of new features – including fingerprint authorization, push notifications, and a number of performance improvements.

Q: Why is the app so revolutionary?

JL: Convenience! Our mobile app is revolutionary because it makes buying medical cannabis possible at the touch of a button. Aurora’s always been committed to reducing barriers to accessing medical cannabis. This is one way we’re hoping to help our clients get the medicine they need without hassle.

Q: How can people take full advantage of its features?

JL: First off, if you haven’t done so already, download Aurora’s mobile app which is available in iOS and Android. It’s a good idea to sign up for push notifications – you’ll be the first to find out about new strain releases and other important Aurora news. The notifications will go straight to your phone so you can get your orders in as soon as possible.

Q: What’s in store for the next version?

JL: We’re really excited about our partnership with Shopify. Over the next few months we will be rebuilding our app with the help of Shopify’s incredible platform. It’ll be even more accessible, completely private and fully secure. We can’t wait to unveil the upcoming version!
