Cannabis Conversion Rates

There’s more than meets the eye to making cannabis-infused oils: like the majority of recipes, it involves some pretty precise math. If you’ve ingested our Aurora Drops or DMD cannabis and wondered how much THC you’re actually taking in, you’ve come to the right place.

Let’s break down some of the numbers behind cannabis conversion rates.

First off, most ingestible cannabis is listed in milligrams, the same measuring unit used for the majority of oral medications. Take Tylenol for example. One tablet might contain 300 mg of acetaminophen, 15 mg of caffeine, and 30mg of codeine phosphate. So how does this apply to cannabis?

Let’s say you want to find out how many milligrams of THC or CBD are in your dried flower listed at 17% per gram.

1g = 1000mg total

1000mg x 0.17 = 170mg

In turn if you’re looking to convert milligrams/mL to percentage by volume:

100 mg/mL = 10% of THC/CBD (1000 mg x 0.10 = 100 mg)
10 mg/mL = 1.0%
1 mg/mL = 0.1%

Confused? A quick trick is to simply move the decimal point 1 spot to the left to figure out the percentage of THC or CBD in your Aurora Drops.

Now let’s go through a few examples:

Question #1: My Aurora THC Indica Drops have a potential strength of 26.2 mg/mL. If I put my Drops in my tea, what is the potential percentage of THC that I’m getting?

Answer: 2.62% THC

Question #2: My Aurora CBD Drops have a potential 33mg/mL CBD. How many mg of CBD are in the whole bottle?

Answer: 33mg/mL x 30mL = 990mg CBD

Question #3: How many mg of CBD am I potentially getting if I ingest 0.75mL?

Answer: 33mg/mL x 0.75mL = 24.75mg CBD

Question #4: The DMD I ordered has 17% THC, how much THC am I getting if I ingest exactly 1g?

Answer: 1000 mg x 0.17 = 170 mg THC

Question #5: I ordered Thor at 20% potential THC. How many mg THC could I potentially receive if I smoke a 1.5 gram joint?

Answer: 1.5g = 1500 mg
                20% THC = 0.2
               1500 mg x 0.2 = 300 mg THC

Question #6: I am going to decarboxylate my entire 10g container of Thor (Ghost Train Haze) and make them into brownies. What is the maximum amount of THC I could get in my Thor brownies?

Answer: 10g = 10,000 mg
                10,000mg x 0.2 = 2000mg THC

Question #7: If I cut my brownie tray into 12, how many mg of THC does each brownie have?

Answer: 2000mg THC/12 = 166mg THC each

So there you have the numbers! Remember to always consult your healthcare practitioner when establishing your optimal dose, as it will be highly dependent on your individual needs and the strain of cannabis you’re using. As always, start low and go slow.
