How Do I Apply for Coverage as a Veteran?

The Aurora team is proud of our veterans, and we are honoured to have the ability to help those who have served their country. If you’re a veteran, you may be eligible for financial support through Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) towards your medical cannabis. VAC provides reimbursements via Blue Cross to veterans across Canada towards both dried cannabis and its equivalent in cannabis oil form, up to 3 grams per day (or 90 grams per 30 day period). All you need to do is provide us with a few basic documents.

How do I apply for coverage?

In order to qualify for VAC coverage, Aurora will need the following information:

  1. Your K Number (found on your VAC Health Care Identification Card) – This can be submitted when you register online, or by phone/email to our Client Care team.
  2. Your Medical Document containing your diagnosis or a letter from your healthcare practitioner confirming your medical condition(s).
  3. A VAC Consent Form – Most clinics will be able to provide you with this form. Alternatively, you can request one from Aurora and we will send it to you via email/fax/mail.

Please note that following the submission of all of the above information, processing for VAC coverage can take anywhere between 4 to 6 weeks. If you would like to be reimbursed for vaporizers, you’ll need to first be approved for medical cannabis through the VAC. They cover up to $300 towards one vaporizer every three years.

If you would like to apply for coverage on orders you placed prior to approval from the VAC, you’ll need to submit your receipts for reimbursement to the following address:

National Reimbursement Centre

PO Box 6700

Moncton, NB  E1C 0T8

Remember, you will need to renew your coverage each time your healthcare practitioner submits a new Medical Document. If you have any further questions regarding coverage from VAC, please do not hesitate to contact our Client Care team at 1-844-928-7672 or [email protected]. We’re open Monday through Friday from 6 am to 6 pm (Pacific).

Many Canadian veterans live with the effects of war every day, and managing trauma is undeniably important to their mental well-being. At Aurora, we’re glad that we’re able to play a small part in making that happen.
